Janet Monet was a promising member of the United States Olympic Track and Field team. Also a student in Electro-Photonic science, she was studying for her masters degree at Paragon U when the Rikti invasion hit. As a result of the attack, the med lab she was working in was destroyed.

 

After she awoke weeks later in Atlas Medical Center, two events transpired, changing her life forever... First, she'd lost the use of her legs as a result of the lab accident, becoming confined to a wheelchair.

 

Second, after she was released from the hospital she discovered another consciousness within herself, a being recently arrived in this dimension. A being of light that had been drawn to her experiments, and had also been caught in the explosion. It confided to Janet that both of them had been near death and in order to save their lives, it had been forced to merge with her.

 

Now transformed, Both Janet and the Kheldian (as it was called) roam the city, bringing light to the darkeness enveloping Paragon City.
